Description of Project |
Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association Limited launched this social housing project on the theme of “Best Neighbour Walk Together”, which encapsulates the following meanings: i. Camaraderie in the Neighbourhood: Tenants see an instant improvement in their living environment upon moving into “Best Neighbour Walk Together”. With the assistance from social workers, they start a new chapter of life in a neigbhourhood brimming with kindness. Whenever there are unforeseen incidents, neighbours are always there to lend a hand to one another – helping newcomers with moving furniture, taking care of children, sharing good food, offering timely help to repair broken-down electrical appliances, exchanging information on WhatsApp, giving emotional support, etc. There is simply nothing more heart-warming than this. ii. Mutual Benefits among Tenants: Social workers organised activities such as neighbours’ gatherings and get-togethers to foster tenants’ communication and connection with one another. A resource-sharing culture is also cultivated from these activities, which encourage mutual help and exchange of household goods and information among tenants, e.g. donating and moving furniture. At the same time, tenants can acquire knowledge and skills such as home maintenance and cooking from one another. iii. Settling Well in the Community:The project encourages participation of local organisations and commercial tenants and solicits joined-up efforts of the community to support the daily lives of tenants. Embracing the spirit of inclusion, social workers organised “A Tour Around Wah Fu”, where tenants were taken on a discovery tour of the Wah Fu community by representatives of local organisations (such as owners’ corporations and the Estate's mutual aid committee) and offered shopping discounts by commercial tenants of eateries and shops, so as to help tenants integrate with the community. |
