Details of Units
  • The objective of “SOUK” under the Community Housing Movement is to establish a simulated family support network for singleton tenants from various backgrounds through a three-generation co-housing model.
  • The transitional housing project seeks to establish an inter-generational support network that enables tenants to become self-reliant by supporting one another in daily lives and emotionally.
  • 6 units are located on the first, second, third and fifth floors respectively, with no elevators.
  • All units are two-bedroom units with a size of about 500 square feet and equipped with furniture and electrical appliances for immediate occupancy.
  • Each unit can accommodate 4 to 5 people, with 2 to 3 people sharing each room. Dining and living room as well as kitchen and toilet are for shared use.
  • Monthly rental expenses include: (1) rent based on the maximum rent allowance per person under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme; and (2) HK$100 for sundry expenses; and (3) water and electricity charges.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Single residents in Hong Kong aged 18 or above from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Those who have waited for public rental housing for at least 3 years and are living in subdivided units, or are defined by social workers in this project as having an urgent need for transitional housing
  • Those who have a full-time job or have applied for CSSA
  • Those who are in good health, have self-care abilities and are able to live independently and adopt a co-living style
  • Those who agree with the concept of multi-generational co-housing and co-living and are ready to share a flat with others
  • Those who care for their neighbours and are willing to participate actively in and support group activities organised under the Community Housing Movement
