Description of Project

This social housing project operated by Yan Oi Tong Limited adopts an Asset-based Community Development model with the aim of exploring and rebuilding the tenants’ strengths and potentials. It encourages tenants to put the concept of “Community Building in Po Wah” into action by making an enhanced connection with their neighbours and environment. The project works towards the objective of building a close-knit community that nurtures a great sense of neighbourhood and a culture of mutual care. Five approaches, namely, “Community Engagement”, “Culture and History”, “Environmental Protection”, “Development of Local Industries” and “Landscape Design” are adopted to achieve this end.

Community Engagement: to organise various group activities to meet the common needs of tenants in the community while strengthening their support network

Culture and History: to establish connections with nearby villages, e.g. Siu Hang Tsuen, Po Tong Tsuen and Kwong Shan Tsuen in order to familiarise tenants with the culture and history of their community and thus enhance their sense of belonging

Environmental Protection: to attach importance to the conservation of the environment and reuse of disposed resources in the community

Local Industries: to utilise available spaces for activities such as growing herbs and developing anti-mosquito products, which can help mitigate mosquito problems while improving the economy of the community

Landscape Design: to improve the environment through greening measures
